Eight Melodies / The End [Fusion cover] - Mother

Originally released August 2024

For this cover I yet again decided to go in a somewhat different direction to what I had done previously, focusing more on live instruments over synths and programmed sounds. The guitars, accordion, bass, trumpets and a very well hidden trombone were all recorded by me, and makes up the foundation of the song. The drums and piano (and the music box at the end) are the only main elements I used VSTs for, simply due to not having access to either at the time of making this.

I wanted there to be a contrast between the first and second section, and aimed for having the first section feel more open and light, with some more playful rhythms, while the second section is more heavy and dense. I am really happy with how it turned out, and I think I got what I was aiming for.

Also fun fact, the last section has 4 different guitars playing at the same time, 2 acoustic (a steel string and a nylon string) and 2 electric (a solid body and a hollow body), all of them double tracked for a total of 8 tracks of guitar. This makes up a lot of the “wall of sound” feeling at the second section that I was going for.
