Jan 9th, 2024. at ROLAND’s house. ROLAND: Happy new year! ROLAND: We got handsome guys here. It’s your first time visiting my house right. Sota&Ryuichi: Yes. ROLAND: You were a former train conductor? Sota: You don’t even need to come here, you already got plenty of men to choose from don’t you? Sota Mizuki, 10 months as a Host. (Video released on Apr 8th, 2023) Ryuichi: Your handsome guy is here! (Ryuichi Tokugawa, 7 yrs as a Host) ROLAND: Let’s make a toast. Any words you got? Ryuichi: I… ROLAND: Cheers!! The handsome hosts aren’t just famous because of their beautiful appearances. ROLAND: Is that a bag from Isetan (one of the most expensive department store)? This looks nice.

Ryuichi: I brought quite few gifts. Since you like drinking wine, I brought some cheese… 3 of them to be exact. ROLAND: That’s a lot! ROLAND: You are amazing. You know on the YouTube channel, you are described as a narcissistic weirdo.

(Video released on September 5th, 2023) Ryuichi: It’s a chance. I’m going to get famous with my handsome face. Ryuichi: Hi! Can I sit next to you? I will. Customer: You will? What if we say no.

Ryuichi: Nice to meet you, I’m the coolest guy Ryuichi. Customer: Damn you said it yourself. There is a mirror around us. Ryuichi: Well I’m quite confident. Let’s see… Ah I see a handsome guy!

ROLAND: I’m worried that everyone thinks that you are a freak, when you actually are mature. Thank you for the stinkiest cheese by the way. Sota: I also brought a gift. It’s from my hometown Nigata. ROLAND: For real? I didn’t know you are mature as well. Sota: It’s salmon dipped in Sake (Japanese alcohol).

Sota: It’s quite famous in Nigata. ROLAND: Is that it? Sota: I also brought Saladhope. Sota: Have you tried it before? A lot of people in Nigata eat it while drinking. ROLAND: Thanks a lot, I’ll try.

(Enshin D, 32 yrs old, from Taiwan, have been working with ROLAND for the past 4 yrs) Director: What we are planning to do today is the Q&A session Yushi, celltear, and ROLAND did previously. ROLAND: How many questions are there? Director: We got over 200 questions in just 2 days.

ROLAND: Last time was quite nice. Since it was the first video of the year, the YouTube team decided to invite the handsome ones. ROLAND: Who had the most questions asked? Director: Sota. ROLAND: For real? More than me? Director: You got the least questions asked. ROLAND: Are you kidding me.

Director: I’ll ask an unpolite question that fits the ROLAND SHOW. ROLAND: What do you mean by “fit”. Director: I was surprised with Sota moving to THE CHICK. Where does the confidence of surpassing celltear comes, when you didn’t even reach No.1 at THE CLUB.

ROLAND: Did Song Director write that, because he often do ask those kinds of questions. Sota: Let me ask you this. Why are you even working as a Host if you aren’t aiming for the No.1. Sota: It’s like not aiming for Koshien (the largest high school baseball tournament in Japan) while playing baseball in high school.

Sota: I don’t make the checkpoint as my goal. ROLAND: I agree with you. ROLAND: You know people say that their goal is to reach at least No.8 when answering interviews during tournaments and competitions. When I hear that, I feel like they are willing to lose after earning that place.

Sota: Exactly. Though I understand where that questions come from. I also won’t be happy if someone acts as if they completely ignore my favorite Host.

Sota: However, as a Host, it is necessary for me to surpass celltear, who’s said to become the No.1 Host next year. (celltear Sato, highest sales of over 310 million Yen)

Director: You three are one of the most self-centered people in the ROLAND group. What does men’s sense of adventure mean to you? I also want to know your differences and communality.

ROLAND: That’s a hard questions. Let’s find the communality first. Were you popular back then? Sota: What is the level of popularity you are talking about? Sota: Do you mean having a fan club-kind of popularity? If so, then no. ROLAND: Then how many times were you asked to be couple with them.

Sota: It’s not like I was told, but during middle school, I heard people saying that people are in love with me. About 10 of them. Sota: Though I had a girlfriend at that time so…

ROLAND: I still remember I got a letter from the smartest girl in my school, asking me for my email address. That is my only romantic memory I had as a student. ROLAND: I still remember that one girl, but I guess Sota is different. He had 10 of them.

Sota: Though I’ll be honest, during middle school, the playboys who also can do sports become popular. And people often change who they like. ROLAND: Doesn’t help at all. ROLAND: How about you “Your Highness”. Ryuichi: I never was popular. ROLAND: You were a punk back then right.

Ryuichi: Not that bad one, but was a naughty boy. Still, I wasn’t that interested in girls. ROLAND: And have you been asked out? Ryuichi: Yes, several times. ROLAND: You both had better past than I do. Ryuichi: I also was fat so… But yes, I have been asked out.

ROLAND: I don’t think we have any communalities. Director: How about your service style. I think you all have similar mentality when it comes to customer service. ROLAND: To be honest, I think people who don’t choose me have a terrible taste of men. Don’t you agree?

Sota&Ryuichi: I agree. ROLAND: I don’t understand why they choose people other than me. Ryuichi: As a member of the ROLAND GROUP, which is known to do a lot of streamings, I don’t know why I got so few viewers. Sota: I think I’m the best so…

ROLAND: You know the times when you greeted the first time customers and you know you did a perfect job. Yet they choose other Hosts as the send-back appointing, I suddenly lose interest in them.

(Send-back appointing means the customers get to choose their favorite Host of the day, which makes them highly likely to appoint that same Host when visiting the store next time). Now the audiences have some questions about their private life to ask. Director: This is a question to all three of you. How was your family background? How did they react to you when you told them you are becoming a Host? ROLAND: Ryuichi got an interesting story to share.

Ryuichi: It might sound like I’m complaining about how hard my life was, but my entire life, I lived in the park. ROLAND: You were like a homeless right. Ryuichi: Yes. ROLAND: How about your parents.

Ryuichi: My mother is a great person. She loved me a lot. But her husband was terrible. He was also part of the underground community, thus I was often told not to go home because there is a trouble.

Ryuichi: And I had no money, so I asked my friends to get me some clothes. ROLAND: Did you go to school? Ryuichi: Almost never. I hated studying as well. I didn’t even go to high school. After graduating middle school, I started working.

ROLAND: And when did you become a Host? Ryuichi: At 21. My mother always told me to do what I want to do, so she is very supportive. Ryuichi: Thus, I’m quite confident that I have a strong mental health.

Sota: I on the other hand, went to middle school and high school everyday and got the perfect attendance award. ROLAND: Why did you come to Kabukicho then.

ROLAND: JR (Japan Railways) is a company that is quite hard to join right? Sota: I think so. I graduated from a career college, but all my colleagues were from famous colleges and universities.

ROLAND: Does that mean that you were hired because of your looks? Sota: Um… Though I did great during interview so. ROLAND: I remember you were insane during the interview.

ROLAND: You look cool. And if you were to work here, you’ll live in a dorm? Sota: Nope, I got several houses to stay around here.

ROLAND: We found a great talent… Are they keys of your girls’ house? How many of them you got. Sota: Just three here, and also got some of the bluetooth keys in my phone. ROLAND: I already know you will be popular.

ROLAND: How was your family background? Sota: My father was a public officer, and I got two younger sisters. My mother is an office worker. ROLAND: Don’t your parents tell you to quit? Sota: I didn’t tell them when I came to Tokyo. ROLAND: Then weren’t they surprised when the YouTube video blew up?

Sota: My father’s colleague watched the video and told my father that there is a former JR train conductor who is now a Host. Sota: That’s when my father found out. ROLAND: Were you yelled at? Sota: Not at all.

Sota: My father told me that he knew I’d become a Host one day. He even told me that he is proud of me because I have the gut to challenge things. Ryuichi: Your father was in your YouTube streams right. Sota: Yes he did.

Sota: Question from the audience. What did you think when you knew your son became a Host? Sota’s father: Well I knew he is becoming a Host sometime in his life. ROLAND: Your father is an attention seeker. Sota: He did say he doesn’t want to be on the stream though. ROLAND: Everyone says that.

Ryuichi: And they talk quite long. Sota: That’s true, he did stay for quite a long time. Sota: he also liked that people said he looked handsome. Next question is from an English speaking audience. Sota: Rice. Ryuichi: Cucumber. ROLAND: Girls.

Director: Next one is for Sota. Please tell me how much you spend on your beauty care. Sota: I never did surgeries in my life. Though as a Host, I had quite bad eating habits and got rough skin at one point. And I started searching supplements

Sota: While searching, I learned what chemicals are good for my skins and what are not. Since then, even after eating oily things, I don’t get any pimples.

Sota: So I don’t spend much on beauty cares, about few thousand Yen. ROLAND: So it’s meaningless to spend money on beauty care. Sota: I won’t say that… Director: How about you Ryuichi? Ryuichi: I do the herb peeling. ROLAND: You do try hard.

Ryuichi: Tsubaki is familiar with beauty cares, and so I ask him and copy his habits. (Tsubaki Suzuka, 32 yrs old, yearly sales of 46 million Yen)

ROLAND: Show me your nails. Wow that looks nice Ryuichi: I do spend a lot on my beauty care. Since customers visit THE CLUB as a store that ROLAND made, I’d like to have the beauty standards.

ROLAND: Because the owner is beautiful. Director: There are some questions for you ROLAND. ROLAND: What do you mean some. I feel some harshness there. Director: It’s from a Korean audience. I’d like to know your beauty routines.

ROLAND: I have large windows in my house, so I do get sunburn even in my house. So I always have the sunscreen on, and I also don’t wear any makeups.

ROLAND: Makeups are bad for your skin. I also sleep a lot, take many supplements, and do spa treatment 3 to 4 times a week. I also do hair removal and… wow I never realised I do this much of beauty cares.

ROLAND: Sota you got to be lying. I also say I don’t do anything when I’m on TV. Sota: No I don’t. Let me ask you then, what changed your skin condition the most.

ROLAND: I think the workout helps my skin the most. You know how human were chased by mammoth. I think workout sort of awakens the inner strength of yours. ROLAND: As long as you eat meat and have fun with girls, I don’t see anyone becoming mentally ill. Next up.

ROLAND: I’m always in love. I change who I like everyday. Ryuichi: I noticed there are a lot of sloppy people. Sota: I watched the first audition video and felt that I can also become one. Like I felt they are someone you can easily find on the streets. (Disapproves all the senior Hosts!)
