THE CLUB is planning to open a new store in Osaka. It’s the 2nd day of the audition to select Hosts who will be working at the store.

ROLAND: The “first gen” Hosts are the ones creating the standards of the store, and must be looked up on by the juniors. Thus, deciding who to hire is an important task. (Sogo, 28 yrs old, 8 yrs as a host, moving to the Osaka store)

ROLAND: It will be the day that affects our future. (Yushi, 25 yrs old, head of THE CLUB Osaka, highest monthly sales of over 120 mil) (Shitsudo, 31 yrs old, office worker of THE CLUB) ROLAND: Fight! On! (However, the journey of finding the diamond in the rough wasn’t easy.)

ROLAND: To be honest, your look isn’t that stunning. Yushi: How the hell are you going to sell over 100 mil in a year, when you never even succeeded once hitting on a girl. Candidate: I’d like to know more about… ROLAND: Well, we are not a training facility.

Opening a new store in Osaka is a big deal for the entire ROLAND group, but the one with a talent has yet to show up.

The management team isn’t satisfied with the result. (Eishi Kusano, manager of THE CLUB Osaka) Eishi: The store is quite huge, and the original plan was to hire 35 to 40 Hosts. Eishi: Meaning, we don’t have enough Hosts now.

But then, the star shows up. Shitsudo: It’s a homerun! ROLAND: Yes we got it! Finally, I’m relieved. (No.26 Akio, 24 yrs old, joined the Self-Defense Forces.) ROLAND: A member of the Self-Defense Forces! Akio: Yes.

Akio: My mother is from Filipin, and my family and relatives aren’t living in a good condition. I’m here to fulfilling filial duties. ROLAND: So for your family, that’s great. And you were a pilot? Akio: I tried, but i failed the exam and was working in the fuel department.

Akio: I believe it’s a great opportunity for myself. ROLAND: We do get quite a lot of customers from overseas. Would you be able to guide them? Akio: I’m better at listening then talking so… Shitsudo: I see, is that why you wrote I’m a good listener?

Akio: I just meant that I’m a good listener. A lot of my friends tell me that I am good at listening when they talk, and I use the phrases such as right, or I agree, in a great timing.

ROLAND: Shitsudo loves one of the voice actress. He will be telling you how much he loves her and anime overall. Try to do the agreeable response. How are the “awesome agreeable response”?! ROLAND: Ok then, Shitsudo, tell him how much you love this VA, Manaka Iwami.

Shitsudo: To start off, Manaka Iwami is my favorite VA, who is acting a character named Riceshower in the game Umamusume. Shitsudo: I first knew her in that game. Then, recently there was this anime called Oshinoko, and she was acting the character Akane Kurokawa.

Shitsudo: In fact, she held an event at Makuhari Messe. Akio: Oh… that’s cool. So then you did join the event? ROLAND: Uh.. not good enough. You did make the agreeable response at the right timing, but I’m not sure if it was that outstanding.

ROLAND: Anyway, let’s say that that could be one of your weapon. However, I don’t think you have a stunning appearance. ROLAND: Not shaming you or anything, but you look like someone that could be anywhere on the street. Akio then went to the Yushi team for the audition.

Yushi: You are good at Kareoke. Are you a great singer? Akio: I do like singing, not sure if I’m great but I kind of do have confidence… Yushi: Sounds like you don’t. Can you try singing. Any song would work. Akio: Of course. The song First Love by Hikaru Utada.

Sogo, who suffered a long period of time working as the trainee of a Host, asks some questions. Sogo: Let’s say you didn’t make much sales on your first year. Obviously, low sales means you get very little salary. How does that sound to you.

Akio: I was in the self-defense forces, so I got a strong mental in that sense. And I also have been working as a truck driver for 3 years now, so if I become a Host, I’d like to try hard.

Yushi: It’s great that you believe you have the mentality. However, if you don’t make sales, you will get very little salary. Working normally will give you way more than the earnings of what the lowest tiers of Hosts.

Yushi: As an example, you know the bag of breadsticks they sell at the convienience store for like a dollar. You only get to eat one per day. Or even worse, you will have to go to a bakery and ask for the crust they throw away.

Yushi: It’s like the situation in a manga, where only ones that actually experience it knows how harsh the situation is. I’m not quite sure if you can just go through that kind of situation with your “mentality”.

Akio: I get that I look sensitive and weak, but I know I can by endure and adapt to different situations. Yushi: Not the best, but also not the worst. Yet, he isn’t the average type of person. He did talk back to me even when I said a bit mean things.

Sogo: I do think he has the gut. (However, something crucial is missing. While the interviewers are starting to worry, a great candidate arrives) (No.30, Naoto, 25 yrs old, graduate student) ROLAND: Did you get a flu? Naoto: No. I’m in a downtime right now.

Naoto: I have a complex about my skin looking dirty, and it’s my third time auditioning… ROLAND: For real? I don’t remember you at all. Naoto: I entered for the previous 2nd audition, and the Revenge Match of it as well. ROLAND: Um… Naoto: I had a nose plug at that time.

Kurosaki: Could you take the mask off? Naoto: Sorry I had a nose bleed. Kurosaki: You just got it?

Naoto: I went to the “Terumayu” this morning and was in a sauna thinking what I should talk today, then got a nose bleed. It did stop, but I didn’t want to take the risk of bleeding when seeing you three so…

ROLAND: Oh I remember you now. Well then, we are doing this as a business. Tell me your plan on how you will get sales. Naoto: You think my appearance isn’t good enough?

ROLAND: I won’t say it’s bad, but not awesome either. To hire someone, we need something that shines within you. What do you think that one thing for you?

Naoto: I believe I am a challenger. It’s my third time auditioning, and I came to Osaka riding on overnight buses several times. I believe that proves that I am a fighter when compared to those that are auditioning for the first time today. Naoto: I’m here today to get hired.

ROLAND: So about your talents, what is this? You can drink a bottle of sparkling water without burping? Naoto: Yes. I’d like you to see it. Shitsudo: So you did bring a bottle of sparkling water with you? Naoto: I’m going to buy it now… ROLAND: You didn’t bring it… Wow…

Shitsudo: You included this because it’s Osaka? (People from Osaka is known to have a sense of humor) Naoto: Yes, I thought I should have something that I could make you laugh. ROLAND: I do see your passion. Let’s see how Yushi’s team will decide. Drinking the entire bottle takes longer than expected.

Naoto: There. ROLAND: You wrote you love talking to people, you don’t look like you do though. (Talents: Can make bouquet, can play soccer and footstall, love talking to people)

Arata: I’m a bit nervous. I want to learn how to understand the way women think, and how they feel through working as a Host. ROLAND: Hm.. But we are not a training facility. Many do mistake this, but it’s not a place you come to learn how girls think.

ROLAND: As a Host, you need something unique.. Arata: Ah, my voice is quite small as well… ROLAND: It’s not just that, but audition is a place where people compete by having something that you know you are the best at, or some skills that will get customers to assign you.

ROLAND: To be honest, I didn’t feel that passion from you. The result hasn’t been decided, but personally, that’s my feelings. Quite few of the applicants had one thing in common. ROLAND: A member of self-defense forces again? How many are applying to be the host here.

ROLAND: Ground Self-Defense Force? Hayato: Yes. I’m also working as a “boy” in Kabukicho. (A male waiter/office worker who wares a black suit at hostess bars) ROLAND: You have workout as your talent. Can you try doing pushups with just one arm. ROLAND: You can! Damn that’s great. Shitsudo: You definitely have the talent.

ROLAND: Are you trying to apply to be the office worker, since you are working as a “boy”? Hayato: No, I’m here to be a Host.

Hayato: I originally wanted to become a Host, but was told that I should start working as a “boy”, though I’ve only been working for like a month now. ROLAND: Do you think you’d succeed as a Host? Hayato: I’m not sure, but I’d like to try.

ROLAND: You aren’t popular with girls right. Hayato: Yup… ROLAND: I can’t imagine the picture of girls chasing after you. ROLAND: So you don’t want to do the office work? What if we say we will take you as the office worker.

Hayato: Do I get to be a Host later? ROLAND: No, permanently as an office worker. Hayato: Then no. ROLAND: He had this aura that shows that he got no cheeks. Same as me during high school.

ROLAND: But why are there so many people from Self-Defense Force? It’s only Kurosaki that believes in people from Self-Defense Force are guaranteed to earn high amount of sales.

ROLAND: We don’t have any biases toward them. The one we have is toward people working at Starbucks. If they work at Starbucks, most of the times they succeed as a Host. Yushi: Can I see your abs?

The question is, weather to take him as an office worker or a Host. Yushi: So you’d like to be a Host rather than working as an office worker. Hayato: Yes. Yushi: Why do you think you will be able to get sales? What is that one talent that you got.

Hayato: I might not have such talent, but as you can see with my workout, I am a person who can do things that I decided to do, all the way till I finish it.

Sogo: It’s not as simple as working out. You need to be this person that is worth spending money on. ROMANE: If we ask you to make us laugh, can you do it? Hayato: I can do a one-liner. Ready, set… Sphinx. (It was very funny) Shitsudo: Next please. ROLAND: That’s not the door.

(No.28 Takumi, 26 yrs old, a security guard) Takumi: I didn’t write it down, but I make songs as my hobby.

ROLAND: I love that you wrote sloppy palm reading as your talent. Takumi: I wasn’t confident enough to write composing music on the talent section, so I wrote palm reading instead, which I can also use during the service.

ROLAND: Can you try? Takumi: Well… the heart line is facing upwards so you will have something good happening to you tomorrow. ROLAND: Haha, that is very sloppy. Why don’t you let him try on you Shitsudo. Takumi: Your skin looks awesome. Hm… Oh… I feel so sorry for you…

ROLAND: Damn are you going to die Shitsudo… Shitsudo: You are good at playing along with it though. Takumi: I was born in the western part of Japan, so I think that’s why (people from the western Japan are known to be funny). ROLAND: I can tell.

ROLAND: You are such a good person, I want to be friends with you. However, his interview with Yushi’s team didn’t go so well.

Yushi: Why did you decide to become a Host? Takumi: I was trying to hit a girl at Kabukicho, but never succeeded. And the reasons were because girls were into Hosts. Takumi: That’s why I kind of admire the job.

Yushi: How often did you succeed when hitting on a girl? Takumi: Never. I never have a girlfriend in my life. Yushi: Anything else? Takumi: I’m going to get over a million sales in one year, so please hire me.

Yushi: How the hell is he going to sell over a million Yen when he never even succeeded hitting on a girl. Will they even get a single good candidate?

Eisuke: If I can become famous and make sales, then I’d like to move to Nanba (part of Osaka) and… (No.32, Eisuke, 23 yrs old, part time worker) ROLAND: If? So you aren’t passionate about becoming famous. Eisuke: I do, it’s just that I don’t have any unique talents…

ROLAND: Then you can’t work. We are not a charity. I believe that person’s deepest thoughts appears here and there in the conversation. If you truly wanted to become famous, you’d never even think about using the word If. ROLAND: You have no confidence at all.

When will the one with true talents going to show up? ROLAND: Finally! A Homerun. I’m glad I held the audition. Only few applicants are left… Yushi: I’m already interested in you. You are a comedian?

(No.51 Ginto, 26 yrs old, former comedian) Ginto: Yes. I was a comedian working with Yoshimoto (the largest comedian talent management company) until this June. Ginto: Though I didn’t see me succeeding as comedian, so I quit. Yushi: Were you doing it alone? Ginto: No, I had a partner.

Yushi: Can you show me some? Ginto: Go! Go! Rider Zipper! Yushi: Can you try servicing Romane? Ginto: Hi, my name is Ginto, nice to meet you. Can I sit next to you? Ginto: Damn your hair look nice. You got a blonde hair. I’ll be honest, I love blonde hair.

Romane: Aren’t you saying that to everyone? Ginto: No. Just you. Your eyes look beautiful as well. Romane: Well I did do plastic surgeries. Ginto: Really? I think it’s great since you got a high beauty standard. I only am thanking god for meeting such a beautiful woman.

Yushi: You sound so fake. You do have the power though. (No.33 Hiroki, 24 yrs old, former undertaker) ROLAND: You like baking snacks. And you aren’t fond of talking with others? Hiroki: I am very shy so… ROLAND: You sound so sad. It’s an interview, not a funeral.

ROLAND: There will be background music in the store, and people will be laughing a lot as well. You can’t be that quite. Otherwise the customers will be sad too. Shitsudo: I think he looks quite nice. Question is, will people like his talents. ROLAND: I don’t think so. There are bunch of office workers who can warm it up like he did, it’s not unique.

ROLAND: However, I do think he has already broke out of his shell. But his appearance isn’t great. I’d put him on hold for now. Finally, a person with unique talents shows up. ROLAND: Oh finally! You look cool.

ROLAND: I’m kind of sad that you don’t want your face on YouTube. But I think the audience will know how gorgeous you look by how we are reacting now.

Shitsudo: I personally think you look a bit like celltear. ROLAND: He is a combination of Shun and celltear, that’s even better. Applicant: The reason why I don’t want to show my face is because I am a senior and have got an unofficial offer from a famous finance company. Shitsudo: What made you decide to come to this audition after getting the unofficial offer from such a well known company?

Applicant: My mother single handedly raised me, and I’d like to help her. We live in Kyoto now since it’s cheap. I also have student loans of about 3 million Yen. ROLAND: Without interest? Applicant: I rented both types of with and without interests.

Applicant: I also have one younger brother and one younger sister, and one is in technical school, and the other is in middle school. Applicant: Thus, if I can work as a Host, I’m going to deny the unofficial offer from the finance company.

ROLAND: That’s like a story in a manga. How old is your sister? Applicant: 8th grade now. ROLAND: So if she wants to go to a private school, and you become famous, you’d pay for her? Applicant: Yes I will.

ROLAND: There is no reason not to hire him. I even want to assign him to my table and purchase champagne. ROLAND: Finally we found a great candidate. It’s a home run. I’m so glad we held this audition.

ROLAND trying his best to scout him from the well known financial company that he got the unofficial letter from. ROLAND: If he doesn’t become famous, it’ll be our fault. Please become the legendary Host.

Director: You are directly telling him that he is hired right? ROLAND: Let’s work hard together. Be safe on your way home, don’t get into an accident or anything. Shitsudo: It’s a homerun. ROLAND: Finally. He was awesome. (Yushi also had a great reaction).

Yushi: I think he will succeed. Even including candidates from yesterday, I think he is one of the top. Next up. Shitsudo: If it was me, I won’t take him. ROLAND: I want him. Shitsudo v.s. ROLAND.
