ROLAND GROUP Emergency Meeting. ROLAND: Good morning. As all of you know, there was a revision to the Adult Entertainment Business Act, but I’m sure no one fully understands the changes so I’ll explain that today. ROLAND: The law has simply caught up with what we have been banning as a store rule, things like not referring customers to sex-related services and not taking kickbacks from those activities. ROLAND: So no changes there, just keep following the rules. ROLAND: But as I mentioned on LINE, the changes include new restrictions on advertising. For example, you’re no longer allowed to claim to be No.1, disclose your sales figures, or mention your position or title. ROLAND: Remember that we are only able to run businesses with permission from the government, so let’s make sure we follow the rules properly. ROLAND: Thus we are removing all titles, including your business cards, and we will stop running ads inside the store that shows your sales rankings. ROLAND: Also from now on, do not post your sales amount on social media. I was told not to post pictures of Hosts in the order of their sales amount. ROLAND: Further, tabs are no longer allowed, which we have been banning for several years. So, the only thing you need to be aware of is to not post your sales amount or rankings on social media. ROLAND: If you are not sure if certain phrases can be used or not, feel free to ask me. The phrases such as birthday events are banned. You may say it’s your birthday, but you are no longer allowed to host birthday events. ROLAND: The sales competition we’ve been doing for long time, THE BATTLE, is also banned as it gives the impression that it’s a fight. So in the future, we will be hosting events in a different way. ROLAND: We also are planning to do the Yukata event, but we no longer can use words such as event as it implies a sales motive or suggest a desire to increase sales. We aim to run business fully by the book leaving no room to be blamed. ROLAND: Might sound pessimistic, but we’ve been strictly following compliance rules for years. In fact, it’s been difficult at times because other groups inflated their sales through tabs and similar practices. ROLAND: With this legal revision, we will now be able to compete with other groups thoroughly based on our own charm and the qualities as an entertainer. So I’m genuinely glad about this legal revision. ROLAND: There are over 300 host clubs but most of them only have the sales amount as their identities. And I think those stores won’t be able to survive any longer. ROLAND: While we need to consider strategies to survive, it’s also an opportunity for us, as the number of competitors will decrease. I believe our group will be the last one standing. ROLAND: As you all know, we are the very few groups that actually care about the customers and in return have a high quality customers. ROLAND: We have former MPD officer working with us, and also I’m thinking positively so don’t feel anxious. Let’s continue to uphold compliance and strictly follow the law so we can say that there’s really no other store doing it as properly as we are. ROLAND: So the takeaways are that we no longer will be using titles, no more advertisement with rankings and sales amount, and no more sales ranking announcement. ROLAND: These are quite a big change but I can guarantee you that we will survive as long as we do what we are suppose to do. Any one got questions about any phrases or plans or the future. ROLAND: The law is effective from the 28th so I can only tell you what I heard as a prior info but… Any questions. Host: We used to tell viewers during livestreams that we are aiming for No.1 this month and asked for their support, but that’s no longer allowed?
ROLAND: Yup. ROLAND: You may say that you are aiming to earn 1 mil through the social tipping, but you can’t say it’s for your birthday events or sales competition. ROLAND: To be honest, we don’t really know if the live stream will be affected at the moment, but I think it’s better to not do things that could potentially get us in trouble. ROLAND: Remember when we closed during COVID. There was a time when I felt stupid for following the rules while others didn’t, and I wondered if it was even worth it. ROLAND: But since the reopening, many customers have told me they feel safe coming here because the store follows rules. It’s the same situation this time. ROLAND: If we do things because others are doing them then we’d end up being just like them. We have to bite the bullet for now in order to stand out. Host: You said that we no longer have titles, but regular employees like us have worked hard trying to earn the titles. If those roles are gone, then will we only have seniority based purely on one’s start date? ROLAND: The title itself will remain as all organization needs them. It’s just that we are no longer able to use them as part of our advertisement. ROLAND: You can’t say that you are the manager on social media, but within the group, the role will remain as it used to be. ROLAND: Well there are still some time till the 28th and things might change. Things I said are prohibited may be allowed, or things I said it’s ok might be banned. But as of now, those are the current decision. Director: How was the meeting today.
Ikki: It’s a shock to me. It was my goal to earn the top 10 in the sales competition, and the rankings are important for the customers. Ikki :It was something the customers had been looking forward to, so this change has taken away a big part of what makes host clubs fun. Rin: Well it’s the law so we need to follow either way. But since we do have a high quality customers, so I’m not too worried. Rin: But to be honest, I wished we were allowed to advertise our titles. Some customers have been supporting Hosts because of their title so… Every organizations have titles right. Ryuichi: It doesn’t really affect me, but I’m worried that it may be hard for the younger Hosts.
Director: The newbies? Why? Ryuichi: Well customers support Hosts to achieve the common goal of winning the sales competition. Ones that have skills to entertain customers are fine, but the newbies don’t have them yet. Ryuichi: The goal is to avoid encouraging competition among customers. To do so, Hosts are required to have a good talking skills, which may take time to train. Director: Kenzo, what do you think.
Kenzo: Um… I came here because I watched THE ROLAND SHOW and loved what the seniors were doing. But the law revision completely destroyed what they did. Kenzo: ROLAND mentioned the red ocean turning to blue. It might not affect those who’ve already reached a certain level, but it’s tough on those who haven’t made it that far yet. We may see a growing division in sales. Tsubaki: To be honest, I don’t care. The world is always changing and it’s all about being able to adapt or not. There are bunch of stores faking numbers and false advertising so I think the revision was good. Tsubaki: Only truly exceptional hosts and stores will survive so it’s good for me. Besides, many Hosts love to bluff about their sales but in reality they buy bottles with their own money. Tsubaki: And I’ve always hated such culture, so I like the changes. Director: When did you hear about the changes?
ROLAND: I don’t remember when, like few days ago. Director: What was your first reaction when you heard about it?
ROLAND: I heard about the changes in the advertisement, but we never had sales figures in our advertisement so I didn’t really think it’ll affect us. ROALND: But later I was curious so I asked and realized that the entire business style has to change so I was confused. Director: Which part made you confused?
ROLAND: The sales competition, the social media usage, and all those norms we had. Director: Remember you once told me that Host club is a place to enjoy role playing. I’ve interviewed couple of Hosts and they told me that they don’t know what the goals are anymore. ROLAND: Customers used to enjoy watching their favorite Hosts succeed, but from now on, Hosts have to focus more on entertaining the customers. ROLAND: As an example, when you go to a concert, you don’t think about how much the artists make, you simply go there to enjoy the music. ROLAND: You go to a barber to cut your hair, you go to a restaurant to eat. We are just going back to the fundamentals of the service industry, to entertain the customer. So I’m really not worried at all. ROLAND: I also didn’t really have that much sales when I was working as a host. I’ve always focused not on the sales figures, but on how I sell.
